Sinstar Founder Shares New Flexible Packaging Lamination Technologies

Senior Mechanical Design Engineer(Laminating Equipment)
Yuehua Chen

A specialist in solventless laminating equipment design and innovation, with experience contributing to 3,000+ machine designs across 45+ industries worldwide.

At Linyi, Shandong Province, China, on August 19, 2026—Li Yongcai, Founder of Chongqing Sinstar Packaging Machinery Co., Ltd. (sinstarsl.com), visited Linyi Vocational University of Science and Technology to share a technical training session for students in the Advanced Lamination Operator Program. The session focused on The Fundamentals Of Flexible Packaging Lamination, covering the development of the flexible packaging industry, solventless lamination technology, FLEXO PLUS (Hard dry lamination) technology, and comprehensive solutions for various flexible packaging lamination processes. Drawing on years of experience in the packaging machinery industry, Mr. Li explained key production technologies and practical operating considerations in detail.

As a packaging machinery manufacturer specializing in lamination solutions, Sinstar continues to support industry education and knowledge sharing. We hopes to help more students develop a better understanding of flexible packaging lamination technology and prepare for future careers in the packaging industry.

Mr. Li Yongcai at Linyi Vocational University of Science and Technology

The training began with an overview of the major lamination processes used in flexible packaging production. Mr. Li introduced gravure dry lamination, flexographic dry lamination, five-roll solventless lamination, and FLEXO PLUS technology. The different processes were compared in terms of environmental impact, production speed, energy consumption, operating costs, safety, and material compatibility. This provided students with a practical understanding of how different lamination technologies perform under different production requirements.

For solventless lamination, Mr. Li focused on four critical systems: adhesive mixing and ratio control, gap coating, tension matching, and rewinding control. The training also covered practical production issues, including adhesive ratio adjustment, coating weight control, web tension settings, curing conditions, equipment cleaning, and daily maintenance.

One of the key topics of the session was SINSTAR’s FLEXO PLUS technology, also known as hard dry lamination. Compared with conventional flexographic lamination systems, FLEXO PLUS eliminates the traditional adhesive pan structure and uses a new adhesive transfer method. The system is designed to improve several aspects of the lamination process, including: Zero adhesive waste during job changes, Automatic cleaning, High-solid-content adhesive coating, Coating quality inspection, Optimized adhesive consumption

During an interview with Linyi Vocational University of Science and Technology, Mr. Li was asked about the potential cost savings FLEXO PLUS can provide in actual production. “It can save up to RMB 1.8 million in adhesive costs per year.

Mr. Li explained that cleaning the coating unit of the new FLEXO PLUS system requires only approximately 800 grams of solvent, while cleaning a conventional flexographic laminator typically requires at least 5 kg of solvent.

The system can also reduce labor requirements. Taking Kaida Group as an example, Mr. Li explained that the equipment can reduce the workforce by six operators compared with the traditional process. According to feedback from production staff at the customer’s facility, solvent evaporation losses during production have also been significantly reduced.

During the training, Mr. Li also introduced SINSTAR’s multi-process lamination solution, Combi triplex solution. The Combi triplex solution combines FLEXO PLUS and solventless lamination technologies, allowing three layers of material to be laminated in a single production process. By combining different lamination technologies, the system is designed to make better use of the advantages of each process while maintaining product quality. At the same time, it can help manufacturers reduce production costs and shorten delivery times.

Li Yongcai answering questions from students in the Advanced Lamination Operator Program

When speaking about this training session for the Advanced Lamination Operator Program at Linyi Vocational and Technical College, Mr. Li Yongcai noted that the college systematically trains technical professionals in lamination and other specialized fields for society and industry, effectively reducing the time required for companies to train qualified professionals. At the same time, such specialized courses provide a platform for technical professionals in the industry to exchange knowledge, discuss and solve industry challenges together, and improve their technical skills.

This technical exchange was not only a close integration of advanced enterprise technology with vocational education, but also a positive interaction between industry experience and the training of professional talent. In the future, SINSTAR will continue to promote exchanges in flexible packaging lamination technology innovation and professional talent development, working together to advance technological progress and high-quality development in the industry.
